Cook sauce

Heat oil in a 10-inch, high-sided, broiler-safe skillet over medium.

Add onion; cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 3 minutes.

Add garlic; cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Add tomato-water mixture to skillet.

Sprinkle evenly with mozzarella.

Broil until cheese is melted and beginning to brown, 3 to 5 minutes.

Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with basil leaves.
