Turns out, there is a right order to shower.

But just because you’ve been doing it for years doesn’t mean you’re doing it correctly.

Yes, according to dermatologists, there is a right way to shower.

And while a long, steamy shower might sound amazing, it’s not so great for your skin.

Derms recommend using warm (not hot) water and capping yourshower timeto 10 minutes.

This will help keep your skin barrier intact so it can keep the good (moisture!)

in and the bad (pollution!)

Massage your shampoo into your scalp and rinse.

Work another dime-size dot through the length of your hair and rinse again.

Wash your body

Doing this after your hair ensures that your conditioner will be washed away.

If it’s left on, it can trigger zits.

Work from neck to toe.

Be gentle around the private areas, and only clean the outsidenot the inside.

Most formulas are for external use only, Freeland says.

Shave (if you want!)

If you enjoy exfoliating beforehand, great, but its not a pre-shaving must.

Whats more important is that you change your blade every six uses.

Rinse your body when done.

Towel dry

Instead of rubbing, blot your body.

If you washed your hair, blot it with a microfiber hair towel.
