Rotate the avocado, continuing to cut lengthwise around the pit until the halves separate.
Twist to Separate the Halves
With your hands, gently twist the avocado halves to separate them.
One half will keep the pit.
Position the length of your knife at the pit.
Tap it with just enough force so that the knife embeds slightly in the pit and doesnt slip.
Using a spoon tends to be slightly messier and more wasteful, but its a good alternative if necessary.
Discard (or replant!)
the avocado pit and slice the flesh as desired.
