Does your dishwasher stillsmell yuckywhen it’s empty after running a wash cycle?

Did you know that your dishwasher has a filter?

Have you ever cleaned your dishwasher’s filter?

If your answers are yes, no, and no, then we’re about to rock yourdishwasher habits.

Every dishwasher has a filter to trap bits of food.

Some are self-cleaning (but still need attention), others require you to do it all.

Check the model’s manual on the manufacturer’s website to determine what jot down of filter you have.

Then, follow these simple directions on how to locate and clean a dishwasher filter.

Remove the bottom rack and locate the filter.

The cylindrical filters usually twist-lock into place.

Some models also have a second flat filter below the cylinder.

Use a sponge, old toothbrush, or soft-bristled nylon brush to scrub away any remaining debris.

If there is stuck-on debris, sprinkle your sponge withbaking sodaand scrub the housing.

The baking soda acts as a gentle abrasive to loosen the gunk.

Rinse and Reinstall the Filter

Rinse the filter well with hot water and reinstall the filter.

Replace the bottom rack.

Run a Dishwasher Cleaning Cycle

Ideally, this is the perfect time to thoroughlyclean the entire dishwasher.

If you have a self-cleaning dishwasher filter, give it a thorough cleaning every two or three months.

Manual clean filters should be cleaned at least monthly.

Failure to clean the filter can lead to more than odor, it can damage your dishwasher.

The build-up causes blockages that slow drainage and can lead to problems with the dishwasher’s water pump.
