So, how much does a gallon of paint cover?
“The most important thing is calculating the square footage of your wall space,” Gibbons says.
But Edrosa also gives easy formulas you might use to determine how much you need.
“Its good to plan for overages,” Gibbons says.
Sherecommends simply ignoring cutouts like doors and windows to give you that wiggle room.
Edrosa recommends adding 10 percent to your calculations to ensure you have enough paint for additional coverage.
Depending on the paint color, they may even require more than two coats.
With drywall, plan to apply two coats of primer and use the high-quality stuff.
Roller cover quality is also an essential factor in painting.
Lower-quality rollers tend to shed and cause streaks, which means you’ll need more paint to fix them.
Also, the amount of paint you use on your brush each time can impact the result.
