If you’re trying to decide which to use, it’s good to know the pros for both.

On the other hand, farmed salmon is often more widely available and less expensive.

Be sure the broccoli florets are quite small, think about 1-inch or smaller.

Otherwise they don’t cook through in the time allotted.

Stir together sugar, soy sauce, and vinegar in a 2-cup microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl.

Remove rice and broccoli from heat.

Cover and let stand until broccoli is tender, about 5 minutes.

Fluff with a fork and season with 1/4 teaspoon salt.

Drizzle onion with oil and season with 1/4 teaspoon salt.

Season salmon with pepper and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Broil salmon and onion:

Broil until salmon is opaque throughout, 7 to 8 minutes.

Serve:

Serve salmon, onion, and broccoli-rice mixture drizzled with reserved soy sauce mixture.
