Sure, you could bake the apple and stop there, but why would you?
Its a creamy, fruity, melty taste of fall.
Easily make a big batch by situating up to 8 apples in a 13x9-inch baking dish.

Using the knife and a small spoon, remove and discard the core.
Add the remaining butter.
Replace the top of the apple.
Bake the apple:
Place the apple in a small baking dish.
Bake until the apple is tender, 40 to 50 minutes.
Remove and discard the apple top.
Spoon the reduced apple cider over and into the baked apple.
(If you are using water, skip spooning it over the apple.)
Let cool for 15 minutes.
Top and serve:
Serve topped with ice cream, nuts, and caramel sauce.
Experiment with the bang out of ice cream.
A caramel or butter pecan variety would be extra delicious.
Chocolate or butterscotch sauce could also stand in for the caramel sauce.
