I’ve always loved my birthday.

And I think (well, know), that has a lot to do with my beauty routine.

Spoiler alert: My makeup bag is lighter!

Forget feeling over the hillI feel over the moon about turning 40.

So if you haven’t already created askincare lineupyou love, now is the time.

It doesn’t have to be 12 steps or expensive.

Whether I’m looking a little (or a lotI have two toddlers!)

Plus it prevents my concealer and eyeshadow from creasing.

I also slather it down myneckto help chill out those crepey bits (IYKYK).

Draw Dots (Not Triangles!)

So forget the dramatic, upside down triangles, and try this light-handed, lifting approach instead.

Of course I don’t have time for this every morning.

but it’s a great step before a big event.

Doing so ensures you’ll use way less concealer, and that helps avoid the dreaded caking.

Not puffy or dark?

Start here: Choose a creamy, liquid concealer that matches your skin tone.

This addition has made a huge difference.

It lifts the face and makes you look happier, brighter, and more refreshed.

Doing this also prevents the cream from gathering in those little crevices.

Turns out there’s a much, much better way.

Not sure about the swap?

Do your own side-by-side.

I was shocked by the lifting ability of this tiny tweak!

I’m obsessed withthis formulain the shade Piggy.

Keep Your Waterline Pencil-Free

Habits die hard.

And this one was the toughest makeup switch to make.

I still got that sexy definition yet it didn’t look as harsh.

And eventually, I stopped lining my inner rims.

Full disclosure: This took a few days (er, weeks) to get used to.

I felt almost naked!

But now, even I can recognize how much bigger and brighter my eyes look without it.

I trace my lower lashlines with a bronze or rust pencil and smudge for the perfect liner look.

But I’ve been experimenting with a more minimal eye look and truly loving it.

It requires one product, one step, and it lightened my makeup bag.

Ditch the Stick

I’ve never been a big lipstick fan.

(Am I a bad beauty editor for admitting that?!)

Something about applying the tube just feels a bit dated to me.

The definition and shine helps me feel donebut not dated.

Move Your Contour Up

Turns out, even beauty editors make major beauty mistakes.
