To the baristas, coffee shops are busy.

With long lines and endless orders to fill, theres always more to do.

And since baristas work with the public, they may have some unpleasant encounters with demanding or frustrating customers.

If you want extra ice orwhipped cream, be sure to mention it at the order point.

Coffee shops have long menus, oftentimes with their own special lingo.

If you cant, aim to keep your order as simple as possible.

A coffee shop sees hundreds of customers each daythats a lot of faces.

Its impractical to assume the employees will remember everything.

Regardless of how you like your coffee, your barista isnt a mind reader.

Some drinks are automatically served hot until specified, and vice versa.

Youll only hold up the line if you work through your indecision at the register.

Plus, sometypes of coffeehave Italian names, such as cappuccino orespresso(its not expresso).

It only takes a few seconds to look up the correct pronunciation or ask an employee.

Forgetting to Mention Dietary Restrictions

Cows milk used to be the only option, but not anymore.

Coffee shops routinely use almond, soy, andoat milkfor non-dairy drinkers.

But if you dont request it, your drink will be made with cows milk.

Customers withlactose intoleranceor allergies to dairy sometimes forget to request an alternative milk when ordering.

When you order in person, have your phone or wallet handy.

And if you use a rewards app, have that open too.

Being Impolite

Kindness goes a long way.

Remember that coffee shop employees work public-facing jobs, which can be draining.

Use your manners, look up from your phone, and be friendly when ordering.

You may even be on a first-name basis with some of them.

However, requesting a specific barista by name impedes workflow.

Asking for someone specific to make your order could also offend the other baristas.

Everyone just wants theirdaily dose of caffeine.

We all get impatient from time to time, but a coffee shop isnt the place.

During the morning rush, the baristas are going as fast as they can to take and fulfill orders.

If youre worried about being late to school or work, attempt to leave earlier.

However, its common courtesy to respect the hours of operation.

have a go at avoid hitting your local coffee shop a few minutes before closing.

This could eat into the employees time to close down the store and head home.
