Are you constantly cleaning?
Is your home making you feel tired and frustrated?
It might be time to redecorate.
Here are ten things to avoid for a low-maintenance home.
Glossy Paint
While glossy paint can look beautiful, it can also attract dirt.
Interior designer Jacqueline Norrise, founder ofADL Interiors, suggests going with a matte or satin finish instead.
While it can create a nice feeling underfoot, its still a high-maintenance choice.
So opt formachine-washable rugsinstead.
This product has come a very long way in recent years.
If you have children or pets, these types of rugs are far easier to maintain than traditional ones.
Mid-toned wood is far more forgiving.
This is especially true if you cook, because dark cabinets show fingerprints, grease, and dust.
Most stainless steel shows streaks, fingerprints, grease, and dirt.
While white matte appliances are easier to maintain, they arent everyones style.
Prioritize closed cabinetry for efficient storage and a sleek look, says Norrise.
Multi-Layered Drapes
According to Norrise,multi-layered drapeswith tassels can be hard to clean.
She advises going with simple fabric Roman shades instead.
However, the easiest choice is machine-washable curtains, which can be purchased inexpensively and even switched out seasonally.
Norrise says it’s best to embrace elegant fixtures with accessible and cleanable parts and components instead.
Avoid complex, multi-component lighting systems like crystal chandeliers with numerous pieces.
These will only present cleaning and maintenance hurdles.
Too Much Decor
When it comes to a low-maintenance home, less is more.
Norrise suggests paring down decor and going with impactful statement pieces.
Overabundant decorative items will necessitate frequent dusting and further contribute to visual clutter.
